How do I read books in Word format?

1. Log in to your Bookshare account
2. Select a desired book
3. Select “Word” from the drop-down menu next to “Download” and follow the steps to complete the download process
4. Find the zipped file in your “Downloads” folder
5. Extract the zipped file

Once the file has been extracted, you can open it with a compatible editor or reading tool. If you have Microsoft Word on your device, depending on the version, you may have access to Microsoft’s Immersive Reader, which offers an excellent reading experience. If your version of Word doesn’t have Immersive Reader, you can access this feature in the online version of Word.

Using Immersive Reader

1. Navigate to your Downloads folder, find the appropriate book file and select “Open.”
2. Navigate to your desired page, then select “View” on the toolbar, then “Immersive Reader.”
3. The book will open in Immersive Reader, which will enable you to listen to the book and follow along with highlighted text.
4. Select the green play button to enable text to speech.
5. Select the speaker icon next to the play button to adjust audio settings.
6. Select the icons at the top of the page to customize the text, grammar and reading preferences, which includes the option to see images from Boardmaker in word definitions.
